King's Palace Tilleda
Medieval traces dug deep into the fertile soil of the Golden Aue fascinate visitors in the region on the eastern shore of the Kelbra reservoir. Ancient palaces dating back to the 10th century are waiting to be visited. The open-air museum Königspfalz Tilleda, unique in Germany, introduces visitors young and old to life in the Middle Ages.
The Kelbra reservoir, which covers more than six square kilometres, offers the perfect holiday paradise for water enthusiasts and families alike: the conditions here are ideal for surfing and sailing, and the bathing beaches are a great place to enjoy the day. In autumn, the lake is a resting place for thousands of cranes.
For day trips, the Kyffhäuser with its Barbarossahöhle, the karst landscape in the southern Harz as well as the Luther towns of Eisleben and Mansfeld are all worth a visit.
