The mountain and rose town of Sangerhausen is located in the scenic southern Harz foreland, in the federal state of Saxony-Anhalt - 50 kilometres west of the city of Halle an der Saale, at the foot of the Kyffhäuser Mountains. The state capital Magdeburg is about 80 kilometres away in a north-easterly direction.

Journey by car
Sangerhausen can be reached via the A38 and A71 motorways as well as the B80 and B86. The new A38 motorway provides a fast east-west connection to the cities of Leipzig and Göttingen.
