Mansfeld Castle
.At certain times, the red-and-white flag on the valley bastion of Mansfeld Castle flies high above the Luther city, visible from afar. Then the castle café is open and visitors can look around parts of the historic complex - or enjoy the view over the "Thal Mansfeld" and the eastern foothills of the Harz Mountains.
The ancestral castle of the Counts of Mansfeld has been located on the castle hill since the 11th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1229.
At the beginning of the 16th century, the counts divided themselves into three lines and built three representative Renaissance castles, surrounded by the most modern fortifications of the time: Mansfeld "Vorderort", "Mittelort" and "Hinterort". From 1674 to 1675, the complex was razed to the ground; some parts withstood the blasts and were rebuilt in the 19th century. Today, the existing building houses a Christian youth meeting centre. Also on the castle hill is the richly furnished castle church. Martin Luther preached here and the site has national significance as a monument to art and history.
In the castle café in the guardian's parlour, day visitors can learn more about the castle's eventful history in an exhibition and enjoy a delicious piece of cake over coffee and tea or browse the range of souvenirs. On sunny days, the terrace in the castle courtyard is open
The ambience of the castle provides a very special environment for all kinds of youth education camps, school trips, seminars and also wedding ceremonies in the winter garden with historical wall panelling. Numerous recreation and conference rooms, some with historical furnishings, the rustic dining room in the cross vault and, last but not least, the ruins of the old fortress provide a romantic backdrop for games as well as for discussion groups. The simply furnished double and multi-bed rooms have modern bathrooms.
